Does anyone know what the E at the end of this job title stands for?

Many thanks,

Clarification request(s) and response
Sinead -: 11:28am Jun 13, 2008: Is there anything after the (E)?
Julia Littlefair: 11:39am Jun 13, 2008: No, nothing after the (E).
Gloria Colon: 11:53am Jun 13, 2008: Julia, what type of a document is it? and is it in a specific format, like a table? are any other things in the document followed by single letters in parenthesis?
Julia Littlefair: 12:15pm Jun 13, 2008: Sorry, I should have given more detail. It is a legalisation of signature on the back of a birth certificate. This is the person signing the legalisation. The Prefect signing the actual birth certificate has (LS) after their actual name. Do you think this stands for anything, or could it be part of the name?
Taña Dalglish: 12:20pm Jun 13, 2008: Julie: Let me see if I understand you: You have two queries, correct? 1. Is what does (E) stand for; and (2) meaning of LS. I believe that you need to reformulate your questions with context and useful information such as country, etc. would help!
Gloria Colon: 12:26pm Jun 13, 2008: Julia, yes, these letters definitely stand for something, but these will vary in different countries.
Julia Littlefair: 12:54pm Jun 13, 2008: Sorry, I will try and explain better! Both these documents are from Venezuela.
1) "Directora General de Registros y Notarías (E)". This is the job title of the person signing a legalisation certificate. I am trying to find out what (E) stands for.
2) At the bottom of a birth certificate, it says "“leyóseles y conformes firman.-El Jefe civil: XXXXXX (LS).- El Presentante, Fdo…..”, where XXXX is the registrar's name. Does anyone know what LS stands for?
Thanks!
Taña Dalglish: 2:24pm Jun 13, 2008: L.S. means "locus sigilli" -- "under seal" (literally "place of the seal").
It is used to denote the "seal" that is required on deeds. In most states,
deeds must be signed (by the grantor), sealed (stamped with seal), and
delivered (presented to the grantee or to the court of recording).
Julia Littlefair: 2:47pm Jun 13, 2008: Thank you to everyone for your help on these. Much appreciated.

Back in history, property ownership was limited to the very wealthy people,
who had their own seals. Since the democratization of land ownership, the
requirement for individuals is to just have the word "seal" or the
abbreviation "L.S." along with the signature. Corporations are required to
use an actual seal along with a certain number of signatures of corporate
officers (Pres, VP, CEO, etc).
