Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs / Salvardoran Marriage Certificate
Spanish term or phrase: de oficios domésticos
I know that this term has been listed in the forum already, and that the translation was rendered as “housewife.” Unfortunately, in that case, the term was applied to the mother of the subject of a birth certificate; in this case, the term applies to an as yet unmarried woman. Here is the context: XXXXXXX y XXXXXXX, el primero soltero, agricultor en pequeño….., la segunda soltera, DE OFICIOS DOMÉSTICOS, de dieciséis años de edad, originaria y vecina de esta villa de Nacionalidad Salvardoreña…contrajeron matrimonio..." She’s not a housewife yet, you see, just a girl who stays home and helps around the house, I would imagine. It is a very small town, so I don't think she's a maid. Any ideas?

in domestic service

Explanation:
One of the PC terms used on marriage certificates to refer to domestic servants, maids, etc. on official documents.

I've just checked my grandmother's marriage certificate from almost 100 years ago and it says 'in domestic service'. She was a 'chamber maid'.

maid, housekeeper

Explanation:
"Oficio" in Mexico and most of Latinamerica stands for trade (carpenter, plumber, etc), thus, "Oficios domesticos" stands for housework - maid, chambermaid, housekeeper, housewife if she works at home helping her mother.
