"Por ignorar el idioma nacional" could also be translated as "through/because of being ignorant of the national language." Although today, this seems a little mean, I guess, as "ignorant" in common parlance has crept towards meaning "stupid", & away from the original meaning of simply not knowing about something. I.e., we're all born ignorant, & remain ignorant about most things, except those that we focus on & learn about.

My apologies, I was too lazy last night to correct my entry, I should have added "or handwritten" after typewriter (which, alas, I misspelled), since I myself have translated handwritten documents with amendments. However, I certainly did not know that it goes back to at least the sixteenth century so thank you for teaching me something new. Un abrazo!

By the way, Lorena, the origins have nothing to do with typewriters. This requirement to certify any alterations made to the document goes back to the sixteenth century at least. The whole point of it is to prevent anyone coming along and making changes later. The notary had to check through the document when it was complete, correct it and certify any changes he had made. Anything he did not certify was automatically not valid.

And Miguel: "Por ignorar el idioma nacional" doesn't mean "By ignoring the national language"; it means "Because she did not know/did not speak/was not familiar with the national language".

Thank you so much for your suggestions and advice. You are right, I should have looked for them before making a thread here. Well, the letter "T" in "contrayente" is not written clearly in the document as well as the number "6" in "Moldes 2691". In "La firman conmigo los" "no vale" in the original there is no mistakes but it seems that they want that part to be deleted, doesn't it?
What I am thinking is to translate everything as well as the amendments. And in the translator's note to specify that in the original document some of the letters are unclear and that there is also a series of words that were crossed out.
This is my first time to encounter with this amendment thing. But anyway I am learning and I procure to make sure that there is no single doubt left. Thank you so much for your helping, Lorena, you are very kind! =)

Do you see the corrections in your handwritten document? Usually the corrections are in the "asentado original" and what you actually have in your hands is an official "copy" which many times does not have the errors of the original. If this is the case you may have to add a translators note explaining the corrections section...

vale is valid
amendment/correction: translated word "valid". You should do a glossary search. There are many entries for EDO and also for enmendado :-)

Amendment: Contrayente "vale" or Amendment: (Translated word) "vale"

EDO = enmendado. Somewhere in the original document some words where corrected or changed. vale and no vale means that the correction stands or doesn't stand. This goes back to when documents where produced with a type writer.
