Standard textbook applied mathematics or not, most people haven't gone much further than A-level (school leaver) maths and so a reference is really required to support the 'kinematics' equivalence; then you'll get my vote ;@)
Yes, this topic, among others, is a standard part of the curriculum of chemistry majors. Even though, the public may think of chemistry studying chemicals, only, but that is not the case. Some, chemists, like me, will stop seeing chemicals after their B.S. and work with mathematical methods, mathematical proofs, physics problems, and abstract algebra. This is so because apparently specialization in scientific fields eventually leads to mathematics and physics... The type of question may not be chemical, but it is part of the discipline of modern day chemistry...
