Is "homochiral" and "enantiomerically pure" exactly the same?? I'm not sure, it's been a few years since my organic chem days but I believe that homochiral refers to a compound which bends light in only one direction becuase during it's synthesis only the L or D form is produced; whereas enantiomerically pure suggests a compound that when originally synthesised produces both the L and D forms in equal concentrations and is later purified.
I'll have to ask my old mate Matt - he was a specialist in liquid crystals and my uni (Hull in the UK) invented them!! |
