Spanish to English translations [Non-PRO]
Computers: Software | | Spanish term or phrase: Pantalla | I want to know the difference in English between the words 'screen' and 'window' when we are referring to a 'pantalla' in the context of 'la pantalla de configuración' in an software application, not on the web.
Is this the settings window or the settings screen? Maybe both are correct, but I want to know the difference, if any.
Also, if this 'pantalla' is divided into different tabs, these tabs are 'windows' or 'screens'? Maybe pages?
Finally, when you click on a button, do you say that 'a window pops up' or 'a screen pops up'?

No doubt about it.
IMHO, in the examples you state, the mention of "pantalla" meaning "window" is wrong usage. What is meant is "window".
When you click on a button, you should say that 'a window pops up' or a 'dialog box' (if it applies), but not a screen as you already have the complete screen in front of you and there is where the "windows" open/pop-up.
Maybe, "screen" could be used in case something is displayed in the whole screen, but however big it is, if it has tabs and options, I would still call it screen.

This is looking for the exact term between quotes.
