Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Computers: Systems, Networks | | Spanish term or phrase: domotización | In a press release from a Spanish software development company, there is a reference to the SOFIA (Smart Objects for Interactive Applications). The release refers to the aim of the project as follows:
"facilitar la domotización de ciuidades, edificios y coches".
In the English texts I've found on the SOFIA project, I can't find any use of "domotization", and I'm considering just using "automation". Any suggestions? |

| | introduction of domotics | Explanation: I know domotics is not yet that common a term, but I am inclined to stay with it in the absence of an obvious synonym. After all, the technology is breaking new ground itself.
The problem is that for me, domotics only refers to living spaces, and by that I mean dwellings. But I feel that "automation" in the context of passenger vehicles doesn't cover it all, and the same for cities... perhaps "Introduction of domotics techniques", but I know that's getting too lengthy.
Anyway, this is my plea for domotics to be given consideration! |

Explanation: I agree with you. Wikipedia redirects domotics to "Home Automation"described as follows:
Home automation (also called domotics) may designate an emerging practice of increased automation of household appliances and features in residential dwellings, particularly through electronic means that allow for things impracticable, overly expensive or simply not possible in recent past decades. The term may be used in contrast to the more mainstream "building automation," which refers to industrial settings and the automatic or semi-automatic control of lighting, climate doors and windows, and security and surveillance systems. The techniques employed in home automation include those in building automation as well as the control of home entertainment systems, houseplant watering, pet feeding, "scenes" for different events (such as dinners or parties), and the use of domestic robots.
You are dealing with a whole city, so "automation" alone would do.
