Spanish term or phrase: firmar las trazas de los ficheros de auditoría
Hi folks --

I am attempting to find the most accurate way pf expressing this sentence in English. I am not an expert in "trace files" and I could not find any online reference to "signing" them. I guess that "auditing" or "verification" is correct for "auditoría."

Here is the entire sentence for context:

Es deseable que exista la posibilidad de firmar las trazas de los ficheros de auditoría para garantizar la integridad.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

If I understand correctly, DKIM is used to provide a cryptographically
verifiable audit trail.

depend on the role the signer plays during the message life cycle.
Some may sign the content while some may only sign trace information (like Received fields).

sign the audit logs

Explanation:
They mean "sign" in the cryptographic sense. Google "digital signature" or "secure hash" for more details.

disagree  xxxmediamatrix: 'sign', by itself, doesn't carry any suggestion of the use of a cryptographic hash - to a non-specialist, it could refer to a handwritten signature on a paper printout of the log. IOW, 'sign' doesn't convey the purpose.

uniquely identify the files traces used in the audit

Explanation:
My reading is that it refers to 'tagging' the files that have been audited, using a unique reference code.

Note that the unique ID will usually be generated using some kind of cryptographic algotithm (eg: an MD5 hash), so each ID is truly unique, bears a one-to-one relationship to the data it identifies, cannot be 'guessed', and cannot be tampered with without raising alerts.

-> Yes, they most likely do want the signature to be cryptographic, but that doesn't invalidate my answer. (See note at 14 hrs.)
