Spanish to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Computers: Systems, Networks / Finacial trees
Spanish term or phrase:nuevos dispositivos de ingresadotes
This is from the same document as before - a financial report (Spanish/Spain-English/UK) and refers to the achievements over the year of a company which provides computer services. This term seems to refer to ATMs and is something to do with fraud prevention. I'm having problems with the ingresadotes and can only find a few references to it on Internet search engines. Are there any computer specialists out there who know what it refers to in the context of computing and cashpoints. Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry if my last comment to Liz seemed rude. If María Eugenia is right I'm going to have to eat my words. "Ingresadores" just seemed so obviously right, because you see the word everywhere in Spanish banks now for a cashpoint that takes deposits. I still say "dotes" can't mean data in general, but I must admit it could mean biometric data.
Hi Sarah, ah! Well, indeed, that makes life awkward, as it could translate as several different items:) We can only do what we can, eh? Have a good evening!
@Liz - unfortunately it only appears once in a sentence listing the technical improvements that a computing company has instigated recently and there was no more context available. It was interesitng what María Eugenia had to say though.
These "ingresadotes" are iris- and fingerprint-recognition devices. I recently translated the whole project for ATM replacement. I cannot give you more info because I signed a C.A., but that's what "ingresadotes" means.
@Charles - Don't worry: Sarah is no longer thinking of including the idea of dotes. And you needn't be concerned about her not having taken on boad Liz' reference entry. Thanks to both of you.
I couldn't agree more. Please don't think I'm complaining about Sarah choosing your answer: not at all! What concerns me is that she is still speaking of "needing to include the idea of dotes". This suggests that she has not taken on board your reference entry, which, as I say, seems to me completely compelling. I am firmly of the view that one should not be too hasty to assume a typo, but really, there are cases beyond reasonable doubt, and this is one of them.
@Charles. I understand your point about the meaning of "ingresadores", trouble is it could be more than one thing here, and there is such little Spanish context, that this leaves this one rather open. This is why it is always best to post as much context as possible in the source text, rather than paraphrasing the query.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Liz is right and that "dotes" is a red herring. I may disagree with her about what "ingresadores" means here, but her reference entry is really unanswerable on that point. At the very least, I think you would be wise to query the word with your client.
My first reaction to ingresadotes would be that these are devices to "enter numbers". Dotes could mean numbers or values in some contexts.

new cash-deposit devices
Explanation: With acknowledgments to Liz for identifying the typo: I think it is virtually certain that "ingresadotes" should read "ingresadores". "Cash-deposit" or "cash deposit", with or without hyphen as you prefer.
In the context of cash machines "ingresador" is a standard term for a device that allows you to deposit cash (ie. banknotes), putting the notes in a slot where they are swallowed up, counted and approved or not. These are certainly very common in Spain now, not only for actually depositing cash in an account but also paying bills, recharging your mobile phone, etc. And indeed they're becoming common on various sorts of vending machines too. Obviously they need to be able to detect forged notes, so the security/fraud angle is fundamental.

Explanation: Difficult to say exactly, since I don't know the company, but this is the type of technology that's used to stop criminals copying card details at ATMs.
