Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Computers: Systems, Networks / Communications equipment | | Spanish term or phrase: llaman a funciones | Is anyone able to explain what this phrase means?
"temporizadores, que al cumplirse **llaman a funciones** de usuario o activan "event flags", con o sin recarga automática (temporizadores periódicos)."
A similar phrase appears later in the text and I'm assuming it is related.
Thanks very much in advance for any suggestions. |

| | call user functions | Explanation: This is one computer function calling another. In this case a certain range of functions "temporizadores" (I'd need more context to know what the term means) calls another: i.e. the function that displays a menu showing the user options available to the user.
"llamadas a funciones" is probably a translation of "function calls".

Re. your note: A "call up" function is either a function that does precisely nothing but call up another function (which doesn't make sense anywhere -- why would you need to call a function to call up a function?) or it calls up a telephone or something analogous. That doesn't seem to be what's happening here.
I suppose it might be possible to call up a function, but you usually just call one. "call up function", imo, is probably either confusing or plain wrong.
I suppose a little more context on what "temporizadores" do might help clarify matters.

On second reading, it seems to me "temporizadores" are just timers that either call functions or set event flags after a particular time according to the rules your sample paragraph describes.
I think you're safe as houses with "function call" and "call user functions". I don't think "user options" is right in this case, because that would suggest that what's called is a menu listing. What they seem to mean is some function or other available to the user. |

Example sentence(s):- To call user functions from an internal function, you should use the call_user_function() function

Asker: I also thought "call user functions" and "function calls" based on previous ProZ answers. However, another translator said they thought it was "call up functions". Since it's not my area, I don't really know what the difference is between the two.
Asker: Thanks very much for the clarification and explanation, Jaime. I believe that "temporizadores" are "timers" in this context.
Asker: Thanks for your detailed and obviously knowledgeable answer, Jaime.
