After almost 15 years, this comment now seems necessary. If the "cuerda" is an exact measurement somewhere, you should clarify that. Otherwise, if it is just a broad description, you can translate it as "approximately one acre of land".

disagree  Heidi C: La cuerda es una unidad de medida específica, y aunque se aproxime a un acre, no lo es. Especialmente si estás traduciendo una escritura o las medidas de una propiedad, que tienen que ser EXACTAS!!!!

disagree  Yaritza DeJesus: What user named "Reinaldo8490" explains is correct! "Cuerdas" in Puerto Rico is equivalent to 3,930.39 square meters. It's less than an Acre. It's the term and measurement used in official property documents.

Explanation:
Es una medida exacta. Y aparece en documentos legales: el documento de registro de la propiedad. Es la medida de terreno, que influirá en la demarcación y los lìmites del terreno o la propiedad descrita.

Yo traduzco muchísimos de estos textos. Y siempre se deja “cuerda” con una nota al pie de ser ncesario, explicando la equivalencia.

Es como si tradujeras que “un litro” is close to a quart.
