The north-east extension has been traced in outcrop, trenches and float rock. Geological mapping included excavation of twenty test pits and five trenches using a crew of 16-20. In the south-west area, manganese in surface outcrop and in test pits was mapped in detail over a strike length of 550m to the north-west, with an average width of 50m and a probable depth of over 20m, as observed in production pit number one.

Mineral materials are defined primarily as those commodities used in the construction, building, landscaping, or related industries. A.R.S. § 27-272.A defines mineral materials as follows:
The term, "common mineral products, materials and property", as used in this article, includes cinders, sand, gravel and associated rock, fill-dirt, common clay, disintegrated granite, boulders and loose float rock, waste rock and materials of similar occurrence
commonly used as aggregate, road material rip-rap, ballast, borrow, fill and for similar purposes.

Thanks for your alacrity. Although not the term used, it helped me find it.

Asker: thanks, this is worth investigating
Asker: OK, great - thanks a mil.
Asker: As far a I can see, float rock is a minerological term that refers to loose rock that contains ores and that is near to a vein of rock that might be exploited. Not sure whether it is suitable here. Perhaps loose rock....
Asker: The new dike, called the Quail Creek south dam, was completed in 1990 as
a roller-compacted concrete gravity dam. The dimensions of the dam are
basically the same as the dike, except that it now includes a new impermeable
cutoff trench up to 75 feet deep, which is designed to prevent water
from seeping under the dam. Evidence of the flood is still visible downstream
from the new Quail Creek south dam, where the Shnabkaib Member
was scoured clean of overlying loose bedrock and sediment.

It was a bit of a trick question. Acarreos quite rightly in various dictionaries is listed as sediment or float rock. I used loose bedrock in the end, because the text referred to 17C hydraulic engineering practices and to the excavations of the foundations. They were unable to find clean bedrock. It might however be a gravel or pebble layer and I am "still" waiting for a detailed confirmation from the client... who will in time let me know.
Explanation: Creo que cualquiera de estas opciones se adaptaría perfectamente al contexto. Suerte

Asker: Thanks but no, because the text talks about the dam foundations being built on the acarreo (loose bedrock... so far) with a series of piles because they couldn't (in the 17th C) reach the bedrock.
