Intermediate sound insulation doesn't sound right! Does anyone know the accepted term here, if any? |

The sound insulation itself is usually some kind of mineral wool (a blanket, quilt or panel).
Please note that the term soundproofing, like fireproofing, is falling out of use, because you cannot actually guarantee that a construction is fireproof or soundproof, only that it is fire resistant or has been insulated against sound. |
