Spanish term or phrase: vivienda pasante
Hello,

Can someone tell me the technical English term for "vivienda pasante" please - apparently it refers to a building with two façades.

Context: "Se busca siempre la luz natural y la mayoría de las viviendas pasantes, generando así una ventilación cruzada y una doble orientación."

Thank you,
Katy

open-ended / cross-through / dual-aspect / double-orientation
Explanation:
The first two seem to be the most specific ways of describing this type of apartment, but I have also seen refs. to "double orientation" and "dual aspect" (the latter are less specific, because they can refer to apartments/flats with windows on any two sides, not necessarily the opposite sides). "Cross-through" seems to be used more in Australia.

Here are some refs:

double orientation
Apartment that has openings on two sides, usually the ends.

open-ended unit
Dwelling that has main openings at each end, i.e. an infill, party-wall condition.

A double-loaded skip-stop corridor leads to two storey ***double-orientation, open-ended units.***

Placing ***open-ended units*** side-by-side is perhaps the most common form of collective urban
housing. It has the advantage of repeating units while also maintaining a maximum number of external faces.
There are many organisational options but if the unit is too deep, achieving adequate natural light to the centre of the plan can be difficult.
Entry to the dual aspect apartment is usually from an end or a side, and sometimes from above or below – for example with a skip-stop corridor access system.

The dual aspect apartments maximise the natural light and each one runs the full width of each block.

All flats and maisonettes are dual aspect providing cross ventilation for all rooms and helping to keep spaces cool during the increasingly warm summer months.

Apartments should be designed where possible with cross ventilation and dual aspect. This can be achieved with cross-over apartments, cross-through apartments, corner apartments and two-storey apartments.
