There are basically three types of light switch, a one way switch, a two way switch and an intermediate switch. All switches are rated at either 6 or 10 amps.
A one way switch operates a light or lights from one position, normally by a door. A two way switch will have a partner so that a light can be turned on and off from two positions, say, by the kitchen door and the back door. An intermediate switch is used when the light has to be turned on and off from three positions or more.
A one way switch will have two terminals on the back for the cable connections, a two way will have three and an intermediate will have four.
To change the switch, first turn on the light and then take out or turn off the fuse or mcb, this will ensure you have the right circuit. Put the fuse in your pocket or tape down the mcb so that it cannot be re-energised.
Remove the switch plate from the wall by removing the two screws and pull it gently towards you. You will now see the connections in the back.

Basic Light Switches
1.
The switch is open so the bulb is off.
A basic AC circuit, like the one that powers the light bulb in your house, requires two wires, called hot and cold. For the circuit to work, both wires have to be attached to the light bulb through the socket. The hot one is attached to the tip of the bulb, and the cold one is attached to the side of the bulb. A normal switch turns off the light bulb by breaking the path of the electricity in the hot wire. The electricity can not get through and complete the circuit, so the light bulb is turned off.
About Two-Way Switches
2. A two-way switch is a little bit more complicated. The term refers to a pair of switches that control the same circuit. In a two-way switch, electricity can flow if both switches are turned to the "up" position or both switches are turned to the down position. If one switch is up and the other is down, however, the circuit will not light. This system is very useful in homes, particularly on stairs. You can turn on the light at the bottom to walk up the stairs in the evening, then turn the light back off again at the top.

So that's what it means? I wonder why they make the terminology so convoluted in Spanish.

The updates to the menu were made to make the site easy and more intuitive for visitors. Obviously, like any change, this may take a few days to get used to.
The dropdown menus have been divided into two-dimensional panels with similar items grouped together under headings. This eliminates scrolling for those with smaller screens, and also improves readability.
Mouseover your name at the top of the screen. Here you will find information about your account, your email settings, and more. The "My ProZ.com" menu was moved up here to simplify the main navigation, and to keep all of this type of information together.
