I found 'camarotes' explained as 'buhardilla' in a couple of links. But I've also found references to 'camarotes' in the basement of a building, and even as a type of attic apartment, so not very helpful, I'm afraid. I was wondering whether they might not be storage units for the individual apartments, something that here is called 'baulera' (trunk room)

the only place I know in Spain is Canaries, where at the top of the buildings one may find solar panels, washing machine rooms, clothes lines and water header tanks

Deborah: I have also seen buildings with small living quarters for the hired help, one for each home. Could it be something like this?

I thought these might be small washing machine rooms, one for each home, situated at the top of the building, but wouldn't like to put that without some form of reference
