Spanish term or phrase: Aduana
Construcción del edificio de ingreso y aduana en el Centro de Reinserción Social

Can anyone please suggest how to render "aduana" in English in this context. It occurs several times in my text about prisons in Mexico, and appears to mean the security area at the entrance where people are searched for illicit items, etc.

Screening or Inspection
Explanation:
From what I understand, this would be a screening section at the entrance to the prison and certain parts of the same.

agree  Charles Davis: Yes, it's the security screening area, called the "search area" in UK prisons, where they screen/search visitors (and occasionally catch them carrying drugs, judging by the Mexican press).

visitor's area

Explanation:
Although in many ways it does serve the same function as the customs area in most ports, I don't remember anyone calling it "customs" in a prison. It might be right, but it certainly isn't used that way, well, not in "my neck of the woods."

I live on the border and that is what it is called. It's the inspection area of customs.
