Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
Spanish term or phrase: desarrollo en planta en
This phrase occurs in the following description of an access bridge housing a conveyor at a dock installation. The full sentence is "la faja acometerá por el extremo Sur Oeste del muelle con un desarrollo en planta en dirección Sur Oeste." It is obviously a directional statement, but does this simply mean in a south-west direction?

English translation:in a south-westerly direction
Explanation:
Yes, you are correct!

"Desarrollo en planta" basically indicates the direction of a built object (or object under construction!) projected onto the horizontal plane from a given starting point.

It is used ubiquitously for linear civil engineering projects (roads, railways, tunnels, bridges, etc.) and often, as in this case, by architects and engineers in construction projects.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Kevin, hola, and many thanks. I thought that was what it was, but it was a "just in case" scenario. An architect friend has just confirmed the same thing. Your are spot on. Best wishes and points to follow. Sian.
