I think the misunderstanding may rise from the possible translation of "parra" as "vine", which may be what the asker meant. I do not see this as a red herring or as trying to be misleading, but rather as an attempt to make us see what it is not and try other sources of information.

Pero comentar que he encontrado un restaurante en Gran Canaria que se llama "La Parra" - me pregunto si podría tratarse de un aguardiente natural que se sirve allí...clutching at straws!
