Explanation:
One option. The French term makes it sound classier, but you are probably safer with kitchen assistant. Brigade de cuisine is a system of hierarchy found in restaurants and hotels employing extensive staff, commonly referred to as "kitchen staff" in English speaking countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigade_de_cuisine
The concept was developed by Georges Auguste Escoffier. This structured team system delegates responsibilities to different individuals who specialize in certain tasks.://chefsblade.monster.com/benefits/articles/208-guide-to-the-kitchen-brigade-system

-> Thanks, Jim. I'm the "pinche" in our family, but I think I'm going to move up to the title of brigadista from now on.

agree  xxxmediamatrix: Taking time off from washing the dishes to agree with 'kitchen assistant'. // Chief cook and bottle-washer says thanks for the tip. Sounds delicious :)

-> Thanks, mediamatrix. Brigadista tip: chop honeydew melon and Manchego cheese into fine cubes and mix it up. Serve with Spanish ham and people actually think you're a chef!
