While on the subject of pigs - I have fried bacon chunks for this but would love it if someone could give me something better.

My husband is all ears and is willing to pay. He repeats that they are thick, grilled slabs/rashers of "beicon". Bacon here is different and I'm slowly forgetting the texture and taste of the bacon I ate before coming to Spain. Every once in while I get a flashback of hickory smoke...

Not bacon bits, because they are much heftier, nor crackling because there is meat attached. And I would point out that Spanish and UK concepts of bacon are reasonably distinct (ever found a good rasher in Spain outside the enclaves of the expat?).

In the bar where I have our morning coffee they have excellent ones, and the excellent people who run the place give us regulars a torrezno with our morning pincho (tortilla or whatever) as a special treat. I can let you know the location of this bar for a small consideration.... ;-)

I found this rather arresting sentence in the Wikipedia page on "torrezno":

I actually like torreznos (though they're terrible for the cholesterol), but this seems a bit strong: up there with the Alhambra and the Taj Mahal.

Explanation:
I'm pretty sure this is the best English (American) translation. I'm not entirely sure how different these are from cracklings, because I've never eaten them, but I've always heard cracklings as chicharrones in Spanish. Of course it could just be a different term in Spain though.
