agree Marcelo González: Unless it's necesarry to distinguish a 'political' wing from another type (i.e., economic), it may even suffice to say "progressive wing (of the gov't)" :-)

  -> Thank you, marceloabq - Mike :) Under most circumstances I agree. However, President Clinton was progressive politically and conservative economically (balanced budget, surplus, etc.) while Pres. Bush is politically conservative bu economically liberal.

agree Muriel Vasconcellos: I agree with Marcelo, especially about leaving out "of the government." Or else: "the government's progressive political wing." But it's best to have "progressive wing" at the end of the clause. Your point about Clinton and Bush is well taken.
