Spanish term or phrase: costo de explotación / costo de operación / gastos de funcionamiento
OK - here we go. The first one is the title of a chapter and includes "costo de maquinaria" as the first heading to consider. The second heading to consider is precisely "costo de operación y sus componentes".
and the 5th heading is "gastos de funcionamiento", under which we find "mano de obra, carburante, energía eléctrica, etc.
Operating costs, running costs, expenses? See why I'm confused? I know what they refer to but need the precise term for each one. Thanks one more time.

implementation cost/operation cost/maintenance expenses
Explanation:
That's what my 10 years' experience working for multinational industry tells me. And it sounds logical, too. First you implement an operation system (purchase of equipment, installation, personell training, etc.), then when the system is working, you have to pay personnel, you need raw material, other products, etc.), then the equipment will need oil, cleaning, repair - maintenance.

I was working solely on a table of contents, so it was difficult to precise the context. I think this is the best option. Thanks!

General Operating cost would refer to the WHOLE business...versus the plant versus overhead costs...

investment, operational costs, overheads?

Explanation:
The first one seems to be 'investment' or 'initial outlay' rather than operational costs, since it refers to pùrchasing machinery.

The second - no example - could be "operational costs"

The third could be "overheads", or "variable expenses", except that mano de obra usually enters a different section of teh Profit & Loss from expenditure on electricity, which is generally an 'overhead', whereas fuel could be an overhead or a variable expenditure item.

From these \'definitions\' taken from the web, the equivalent is given in English, except that two are effectively translated as \'running costs\'.

You could draw a distinction between \'running costs\' for specific equipment, and \'operational/operating costs\' for more administrative-like expenditure, reserving \'overheads\' for the last item.

Finally, just to mention that strictly speaking \'overheads\' are costs that you have to pay regardless of production/sales, e.g. rent for your office space even if you aren\'t earning a centimo.

Have you no example of the second item?

In the end the choice of wording will depend on the contents of each section.
