agree  marybro: one possibility. I took art appreciation. (But more recently, my sons took classes from a selection of "appreciation for the arts" to fulfill their college general education requirements. (:>)

neutral  irishpolyglot: ok, I see María's comment on my suggestion and it is suggested that it's just for art. I wasn't aware of the plural use in Spanish for art in this sense.

neutral  Joseph Tein: I have to agree with Irish. Here our term is 'las artes' -plural - and to me it refers to more than just 'art' as in painting and sculpture.

agree  Parrot: This is how I remember the course title, with the caveat that the content was plastic arts. If it should be plural, however, the preposition is "for".

appreciation for the arts

Explanation:
And yes "the arts" is correct. This translation should do the trick, especially for a general personal description

Both are possible. I did a search on google and "of" is slightly more common though!

It might be perhaps my dialect of English (Irish, very similar to BE), but I much prefer "appreciation for."

Despite what I saw in google, for me, I have an appreciation for art. or appreciation for food /history etc..

"appreciation of" sounds strange to me because you use "of" to describe the contents of the word before it or to describe "whose". e.g., love Of God (God's love), packets of food (what are the packets full of? food.), appreciation of art (art's appreciation? or what is the appreciation full of? it's not art, it's gratitude or love FOR art).

I can see a lot of references for "appreciation of", so I am missing something, but I'll stick with my answer and suggest that perhaps "of" is an American English idiom (which perhaps you would prefer?) Hopefully someone else will contribute to this discussion! I'm quite curious to see if there is a preference for one or the other.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Gracias, Irishpolyglot, pero es un solo curso (no hay "II" ni "III"), así que creo que la respuesta de Mike es la correcta :)

Asker: Mmmh... I think you may be right, but the preposition is not very convincing for a curricular subject. Shouldn't it be "Appreciation of the arts"?

Asker: Hello again! My translation is for New Zealand, but the only English I translate into is U.S. English, so THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR EXPLANATION!! Anyway, I will leave the question open to see what other colleagues have to say.
