In the Spanish CV of a PhD supervisor, he gives details of a number of doctoral theses he has supervised, giving the following details:

Fecha de lectura:

I've looked in the Proz glossary but the only translation suggested is "Reading date", which I suspect is too literal, and in fact meaningless in British English. Does anybody know if it refers to "Review date", "Board date", "Date of Viva" or in fact to something else quite different?

The document has to be translated into British English.

Defense Date / Defence Date


Explanation:
Lo que entiendo, es que la "fecha de lectura" es un eufemismo para la fecha de defensa, aunque el candidato va a presentar o "leer" su tésis, en si la va a defender frente al tribunal.

Ahora, puede ser que bajo esquemas de ciertas universidades, haya una fecha para que el tribunal la revise o lea y luego recien se fije una fecha de defensa....

Lectura de tesis: 13 de Julio de 2007.

Finalmente, la lectura de mi tesis doctoral será el viernes 13 de Julio de 2007, a las 12:30 en esta dirección, también podeis la localización en este mapa. El espectáculo será, probablemente, en el Salón de Actos de la Facultad (según se entra al edificio, al fondo a la derecha).

Aquí hay un ejemplo, es una invitación para una "lectura y defensa de tésis"... en si primero viene la presentación y luego la defensa ante las preguntas del tribunal...., en si decir "leeré mi tesis" es decir... "la defenderé"
