I think "embrace" in the sense of "to take or receive gladly or eagerly; accept willingly: to embrace an idea" could work here, you could always add "willingly" to emphasize.

I think "come to terms" works well here, as it´s about readjustment. I would translate it like this: "provide him with a tool to help him to come to terms with his situation in a healthy way" or even "provide him with a therapeutic tool to come to terms with his situation" and omit the "in a healthy way"
