Actually, on reflection, I think I would rephrase it as "writing from above the line"

Like everything else about handwriting hand postures can form early in school life, quite ... This hand is twisted so the pen comes from above the line of writing.

As a lefty myself I have noticed that most of us left-handers tend to hold our hand and pen differently from one individual to another. Your best bet is to allow him to find a position that is comfortable and will allow him to see what he is writing. Myself I use the curved hand and write from above the line. He’ll figure it out.

Have you looked up online at all about the tricks for lefty writing compared to how righties write? In your shoes with his age I probably wouldn't use a formal program, unless he's showing real struggles with formation and bad habits (the most common one is the writing hook, that's when a lefty has his paper similar to a rightie and the kind of hooks his arm and hand so that he's writing from above the line, a lot of lefties who don't recieve proper instruction in page angling will do that so that they can see what they are writing and so they don't drag their hand through the writing, risking smudging the letters and dirtying their hand) I'd research a bit online

I've noticed that left-handed people often hold their hand like that with the fingers and pointing towards the line, as opposed to most right-handed people who wirite with the fingers pointing more or less alongside the script and facing it.

over arm hand-writing position

Explanation:
Underarm – this is the usual writing position used by left-handers, where the hand rests underneath the line of writing.

En algunos paises no se le da mucha importancia, pero la postura al escribir a mano puede producir dolencias a la espalda.
