Gracias!

There are lots of organizations on campus that cater to diversity and make it very public for everyone to take part in.

allowing them to be responsive to a diverse student population

Explanation:
I’m not here to cater to your needs. If you want a sandwich, go to the kitchen and make it yourself. I’m also not your maid, so make sure you clean your room this afternoon.”

neutral  Robert Carter: Hi Robert. I can't see any practical difference between "be responsive to" and "cater to". cf "(cater for/to) Provide with what is needed or required: the school caters for children with learning difficulties" (Oxford Dict.). Saludos.
