Tech/Engineering - Electronics / Elect Eng / transformers/wind turbine
From a report on the cuases of a fire in the nacelle of a wind turbine:

also

I am looking for the correct term for fusion/fundida - i.e. what do Earth Rods do when they fail (do they "blow" like a fuse?).

Thanks.

"the temperature limit for earthing grid conductors is the melting point of the conductor. In other words, during the worst case earth fault, we don't want the earthing grid conductors to start melting!"

"Where higher fault conditions exist, the conductor size is determined by considering the circumstances required to avoid fusing (melting) the conductor."

"A lighning down conductor needs to carry something like 20kA for 100ms, so it needs to be substantial enough that it doesn't melt and remains in place to protect against the next strike."
