|Spanish term or phrase: barrera de faldón corto|
|English translation:hard boom|
According to EuroDicAutom, “faldón” is often translated as “skirt.”
Three main types of booms might be used in cleaning up large ocean oil spills. These are the hard boom, which has a "skirt" under water; sorbent boom, which uses something like disposable diaper material to absorb oil; and a fire boom, which contains the oil until it can be burned. Hard Boom - Hard boom is like a floating piece of plastic that has a cylindrical float at the top and is weighted at the bottom so that it has a "skirt" under the water. If the currents or winds are not too strong, booms can also be used to make the oil go in a different direction (this is called "deflection booming"). Hope it helps.
