Spanish term or phrase: mercado bursátil vs mercado de acciones

Conocimiento de los diferentes tipos de mercados, desde mercados monetarios a ***mercados bursátiles***, incluyendo los ***mercados de acciones (bolsa)***, mercados de renta fija (bonos, obligaciones y letras del estado, pagarés de empresa mercado de la AIAF, etc.) así como también una breve introducción a los mercados de derivados (especialmente futuros y opciones).

I am not sure of the difference between the two terms. I would think I could translate 'mercado de acciones (bolsa)' as the stock market, but what would that make 'mercado bursátil'? Could I call it 'stock exchange'?

I would have agreed with SwissTell, but on second thought, in this context mercados bursátiles also applies to options and futures exchanges which trade no stocks, while mercados de acciones are equity or stock markets....

So, bolsa or bursátil means EXCHANGE, while "bolsa de acciones" "bolsa de valores" etc. generally mean stock market. The difference is that there are other things traded in some exchanges, like the NBOT, the CBOE, etc.

perhaps not necessary w yet anohter alt, but you can look at it this way:
At the stock exchange (merc bursátil) you deal with shares(acciones) but ALSO with other stuff. therefor it makes sense sayin: mercados bursátiles, incluyendo los mercados de acciones (which is perhaps the mayor part), mercados de renta fija etc...

Like others have mentioned, it is true that \"mercado bursátil\" includes \"mercado de acciones\". Thus, to make a distinction between the first and the latter, you could consider using \"share trade market\".

My understanding is that the main question is what is the difference betw. bolsa(acciones)& bursátil, so I attempted to give an answer based on \"bolsa vs. bursátil\" & examples because I\'m certain that bursátil & bolsa are synonymous(bursa=bolsa,Latin]. If I gave myself a 5, my reason is that my degree of certainty is extremely high.

According to the asker\'s question, she wants to know the difference between bolsa bursátil, which is essentially what I did and frankly, I don\'t see much room for interpretation where explaining a difference is concerned. On the other hand, your answer did not explain the difference, it gave another interpretation for a term.

Furthermore (to Margarita), Wordsworth Bilingual Dictionary gives \"bolsa de valores\" as the equivalent for \"stock exchange.\" As far as the suggestion given for equity markets, which you propose as part of the answer, M Orellana gives the Spanish equivalent as Mercados de Capitales. A you can see even the sources we use may differ on this answer. The main thing to bear in mind is who is the audience. Also, it is importat to follow the line of thinking provided in the text which is a progression from general terms (mercados bursátiles) to more specific terms within the main category yet that is still part of the word family (mercados de acciones/bolsa).

Margarita Palatnik: "mercado bursátil" is not the same "mercado de acciones". Bolsa or bursátil means exchange...your answer does not address the question, which is mercado bursátil versus mercado de acciones. Bursátil means traded in an exchange, not necessarily stocks...
