Bus/Financial - Finance (general) / name of a bank
Spanish term or phrase: Banco Hipotecario
Hi everyone

Referring to Banco Hipotecario de Chile.

Does anyone know how to translate Hipotecario here? I know it means mortgage, but Mortgage Bank? I've thought of leaving it in Spanish, but then I've translated Central Bank... I'm not very au fait with finance so I'd appreciate any suggestions :)

TIA

ScotiaBank in Quebec: Banque Scotia

But the Banco Nación in Argentina will always be Banco Nación, not National Bank.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions; I found Mary's comment most helpful because it explained the 'rule' of when to translate and not to. Thanks also to Marten and Maria Eugenia for the note on the difference with the Central Bank - I hadn't thought of that.

Banco Hipotecario de Chile
"Banco Hipotecario de Chile"

Explanation:
It's the name of the bank, so I would leave it in Spanish. If you need to specify the "mortgage" aspect of the bank, you can add a short explanatory note.

Hope it helps!

Banco Hipotecario / mortgage bank

Explanation:
Mortgage bank sure exists. Though I´d stick with Banco Hipotecario de Chile. "Central bank" is not at all a proper noun in the same sense as "Banco Hipotecario de Chile", but a public institution

agree  María Eugenia Wachtendorff: Banco Central de Chile is the name of an institution. However, as almost every country has an equivalent "Central Bank," this is usually translated into every other language :0)
