fiercely competitive
Explanation:
What is being referred to here is the "fierce competitiveness" of the tobacco industry, both at the high end and the low end of the product spectrum. The context has nothing to do with a "delicate situation".

The Spanish metaphor doesn't work in English, so forget the quotation marks and just write "fiercely competitive".

I've provided a couple of references to "fiercely competitive" that are tobacco-industry specific.

Suerte.

tight squeeze

Explanation:
I understand this metaphor to say the industry is being "squeezed" from competition on all sides (in this case, from the high-end as well as the low-end of the market).

In your particular context, you could consider saying something like : "..., combined with the tight squeeze on this competitive market (from the premium as well as low-end brands)"

I agree with both of my colleagues--but in my opinion, "delicate situation" is not emphatic enough and perhaps less suited to a business context, while "fiercely competitive" is correct but you are losing the metaphor of the "squeeze" which I think is important.
