Please note:

Divestiture and divestment are NOT the same.

Divestiture is the translation for "desinversión"

Divestment has a completely different meaning in property law, i.e., "the cutting short of an interest in property before its normal termination" (Blacks Law Dictionary, 4th ed., 2004), and should not be confused with "divestiture".

Second Please Note:

"Disinvestment is also an incorrect translation for "desinversión" (False Friend!). Disinvestment means "1. The compensation of capital. 2. The withdrawal of investments, especially on political grounds"
(Black's Law Dictionary, 4th ed. 2004).

Given the confusion among "divestiture", "divestment" and "disinvestment", I am also copying the Black's Law Dictionary definition of "divestiture", which is "desinversión" in English:

1. The loss or surrender of an asset or interest. 2. A court order to a party to dispose of assets or property. 3. (Antitrust) A court order to a defendant to rid itself of property, securities or other assets to prevent a monopoly or restraint of trade.

(Another point of confusion lies in the fact that "to divest" is the verb for both "divestiture" and "divestment".)

neutral  Rebecca Jowers: I think it's important to underscore that "divestment" and "divestiture" are not the same and that only "divestiture" means "desinversión" (I will add a note.)
