Tengo esta frase, qué les parece es eufemismo puro o estoy loca? (favor abstenerse de contestar la segunda pregunta):

Según el relevamiento realizado por Auditoría Interna, el control sobre los cheques utilizados para pago a proveedores, no se estaría llevando a cabo.

Cheques are not duly controlled .... va por ahí la tradux están de acuerdo en que ese "no se estaría" está un poco timidón....

The verb is "no se estaria" because one is affirming it on the Internal Audit analysis and it is not yet prooved. That's why, in my opinion the imperfect is used. Therefore, you cannot say, "cheques are not dully controlled" because you are affirming it. Did you get it?

En mi opinión es una expresión del todo normal,


Explanation:
tratándose de una hipótesis de ese tipo, en la que nadie querrá hacer afirmaciones tajantes. Habitual en estos casos. Un saludo.

Estoy de acuerdo con las respuestas anteriores que sugieren el "may be".

Otra forma de decirlo es con "appears". Este estilo de lenguaje no-terminante ("would", "might", "appears to") para referirse a hechos demostrados (no sólo a hechos "posibles") es común no sólo en documentos de bancos, sino que también es mucho + propio del inglés en general. Es simplemente un suavizante del lenguaje. Por eso yo lo transportaría en la traducción.

Son chilenos los autores? Es típico de ellos ese giro, timidón, claro, pero acertada tu interpretación/traducción, ellos lo usan como sentido de "suposición", de la que en el 99.9 % de las veces están harto -parodiándolos- seguros. Es como no comprometerse con algo q es una evidencia.

pero en serio, yo lo encuentro normal... es el famoso <eufamismo> - siempre les digo a mis estudiantes: Spanish loves euphamisms and English hates them.... especially among us New York-centric folks - directos, directos, directos.

What the auditors say is that <checks must not be being controlled properly>, but I would translate as <proper control is not exercised>...

BTW, our friend Silvana had nice things to say about you... they're gone for a couple days but will be back tomorrow... se me van pegar los argentinismos y mis amigos españoles se van a reír de mi.....

Yo diría que el autor de esta frase no está bien seguro de que lo que ha dicho la auditoría es verdad o no y por lo tanto pone el verbo en la forma de estaría. En otras palabras subraya el según. Si se pone en inglés la parte de 'according' adelante ya lo estás subrayando porque en inglés en general se pone atrás.

Porque no puedo dejar de opinar, estoy muy de acuerdo con todos en que el dictamen de los auditores se pronuncia en forma condicional por los motivos ampliamente expuestos por los demás; por otra parte, mi mentalidad gringa (muy vigente, ni quien lo dude) me dice que hay que hablar de "MONITORING" y no "control" de los cheques.

Digo...

Accordng to the Internal Audit report, there is a possibility that no strict control is made of cheques issued to suppliers.
It may or may not be true. But just in case. You never know. Don't commit yourself. But I'm left wondering.
I think that's the idea behind the phrase and it leaves a loophole.
