Could I say "the 3-month index" or since it is not a specific index, is it typically said another way? Thanks again!

Explanation:
My best guess, lacking further context (and assuming that the contract is not a 3-month contract -- I read it the same way Maria Eugenia did), is that they are being somewhat redundant, and mean to say:

...the arithmetic mean of the index ... over/for/in the three months corresponding to the last three calendar months ...

Simply put, they're going to average the value of the index in question for the last three months.
