Nosotros habíamos criticado el texto, durante la discusión parlamentaria, por su insuficiencia, señalando que interesan no sólo los movimientos de dinero y mercaderías, sino también las operaciones con documentos emitidos por la sociedad (títulos valores) y, también, las actividades extrañas al giro que puede realizarse, por cuánto éstas encierran más peligros que las comprendidas en el giro.
El grupo de interés económico es una figura regulada por la Ley 16.060 que no implica necesariamente una situación de dominio, y lo que el legislador seguramente quería referirse a grupos económicos o concentraciones empresariales.

agree  María Eugenia Wachtendorff: Hola, Fabio. "Giro" o "rubro" (sinónimos) significa "line of business", como sugeriste más abajo. Yo no lo traduciría "activity", porque este término es mucho menos específico. Giro tiene que ver con la clase de productos o servicios que se prestan :)

these items would not include, for instance, the income from hiring out the company's premises during the weekend for a public event, if the company were solely a manufacturing business.
