A later variant of this approach is to trap the card inside of the ATM's card reader with a device often referred to as a Lebanese loop. When the customer gets frustrated by not getting the card back and walks away from the machine, the criminal is able to remove the card and withdraw cash from the customer's account."

Hi Sarah,
That's right: it looks as though there's more than one type of physical device used. There's a photo of an actual "Lebanese loop" in my first link, about the Rumanians in León, but the Telemadrid one (which is my second link) involves using tape. The English-language sources mention the loop for trapping cards, but for trapping the cash they seem to other methods, such as false withdrawal slots (though the loop has probably been used for this too, as in Spain). So I think a general term like "card and/or cash trapping would probably be the best option: a "cepo" seems to be just a physical device used for that purpose.

Asker: Hi Charles, thanks. Lebanese loop is what I came up with too. It doesn't actually correspond with the kind of cashpoint scam in Cosmina's link, which refers to placing tape over the place where the cash is dispensed rather than where the card is inserted, but I think this must be what they are referring to in my text as it seems to be far more common.
Asker: Yes, I think you're right. Thanks very much for your help :)
Asker: I like it :D
