Por ello, el FOMC introdujo en septiembre de 2013 un instrumento nuevo (conocido como overnight reverse repo facility) que podría convertirse en esencial en la estrategia de salida, pues permite a los fondos de inversión monetarios, a las GSEs y otras instituciones además de las entidades bancarias, mantener las reservas bancarias en la Reserva Federal a cambio de un tipo de interés y colateral en forma de los activos que la Fed tiene en su cartera tras las compras realizadas estos años.
