This comes from that horrible "boilerplate" paragraph at the end of balance sheets, income statements, statements of changes in stockholders' equity, and statements of changes in financial position in the financial statements of stock brokerage firms and banks.
Transcribed below is the original text and my translation of that same paragraph of the balance sheet of "Banobras" that I finally handed in last week. The only change you would have to make would be from "sound banking practices" to "sound securities trading practices".
Spanish:
“Los presentes balances generales consolidados se formularon de conformidad con los Criterios de Contabilidad para las Instituciones de Crédito, emitidos por la Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores, con fundamento en lo dispuesto por los artículos 99, 101 y 102 de la Ley de Instituciones de Crédito, de observancia general y obligatoria, aplicados de manera consistente, encontrándose reflejadas las operaciones efectuadas por la Institución durante los periodos mencionados, las cuales se realizaron y valuaron con apego a sanas prácticas bancarias y a las disposiciones legales y administrativas aplicables”.
“These consolidated balance sheets were prepared in conformity with the Accounting Criteria for Lending Institutions issued by the Mexican National Banking and Securities Commission (the Commission), in accordance with the provisions of Articles 99, 101, and 102 of the Lending Institutions Act. Those criteria, whose observance is general and mandatory, were applied on a consistent basis. The transactions performed by the Institution and reflected in the balance sheets at the dates referred to above were performed and valued in accordance with sound banking practices and the pertinent legal and administrative provisions”.
