Charles - On the vessel's diagram, the antecámara is adjacent to the 'tween deck and above the two holds (bodega popa and bodega proa). Other areas of the document also refer to "túneles de congelación," which oddly are not show on the diagram, leading me to wonder whether they are in fact the same as the antecámara. I definitely don't think it is a gangway, so may just use "antechamber" if my research doesn't come up with anything more appropriate. Thanks to you and Jane for your input.

I haven't managed to find out what this is called in English, but I am pretty sure it is related to "cámara", which on a trawler will almost certainly mean the cold store, often called the freezing hold. This most probably refers to a trawler which freezes the fish at sea and stores them at very low temperatures. The "antecámara" seems to be the area leading to the "cámaras", and is not at such a low temperature (just 0º, or thereabouts), or so references I have seen suggest.

antechamber could well be right but I don't think it is the same as gangway which is the ramp leading from the boat to the land.
