When 3M™ Petrifilm™ Plates first launched 25 years ago, they presented food and beverage industry professionals with an innovation that revolutionized the traditional method of detecting and enumerating bacteria, and set an industry standard for food testing around the world.
By eliminating the weighing, dissolving, sterilizing and waiting associated with other quality control methods, quality assurance technicians could simply inoculate, incubate and count. The all-in-one plating system achieved new heights of productivity, quality and reliability in environmental surface and microbial testing.
Fewer steps and increased productivity by technicians led to less chance of error; more accurate, consistent and easy-to-read results; and fewer costs. Because of these plates, testing today can be done in-house with no need to send samples out for analysis.
Now sold in over 100 countries, the time-saving, sample-ready plates have defined food quality testing and led the way to even more transformation: The 3M™ Petrifilm™ Plate Reader, and a family of 10 plates testing for E. coli/coliform, yeast and mold, Staphylococcus and Enterobacteriaceae. The innovative 3M™ Environmental Listeria Plate was AOAC-certified in 2006

Hi, I may have "overdone" the research on this one, (understatementn of the week), and excuse me for being so b...... stubborn, but I failed to see how "placas" could ever be "swabs". Call me literal, but hey.. Saludos!
Various methods of microbiological monitoring of environ-
mental surfaces have been developed, including swab-rinse,
sponge-rinse, direct-rinse, and replicate organism detection and
counting (RODAC) plates (also known as replicate organism
direct agar contact plates) (6–8). The RODAC plate method is a
direct agar impression technique developed by the U.S. Public
Health Service (7–9) that has been recommended by the Ameri-
can Public Health Association (APHA) for surface sampling to
determine the effectiveness of cleaning procedures (10). RODAC
plates have long been used for this purpose in a wide variety of
settings, including hospitals (11–15), aerospace (6), veterinary
surgery (16), and the food industry (17, 18). We have used
RODAC plates for several years to monitor the effectiveness of
sanitation procedures and to routin
All the references completely contradict your assertion that "plates" is wrong. Please supply your own references to back your answer, rather than just state this is "wrong", without any evidence whatsoever!! I find your attitude rather unprofessional.
