I went off to do a little research for you yesterday Neil. Well, yes, actually I went to the greengrocer's to do the shopping. And there was the "sandía negra". Your common and garden dark-skinned sandía.
I suspect there has been some unedited cutting and pasting here, because the text seems a bit contradictory and doesn't seem to know when it's talking about melons and when about sandías. And what I have never seen is a dark-skinned water melon which is "escrita" - a dark-skinned "melón escrito" yes, however. Hmm. Anyway, my vote goes with dark(er)/dark-skinned, and what you say you wrote sounds fine. |
