Yes, it does sound kind of odd. I think the implication may indeed be that we end up being what we ourselves feed the animals we later consume. This is a Cargill Italian Q&A....but this person responded in Spanish.

I'd have said, "valores de la cadena alimentaria" or "cadena de valores alimentarios" (if at all) in Spanish.
And I agree with José: the phrase is really odd...

The phrase sounds odd. There is the food chain but the food value chain is new to me...maybe they try to hint that they make food for animals and that later on we eat the animals that ate their food. I feel that in this way they either call us animals or they call the animals humans... My opinion is thaat that phrase is very wrong in english or in spanish if you really think it out.
