In English we would leave out the "comun", as we don't differentiate betw. almond varietes in this context.
Sweet almonds are what we usually just call almonds - i.e. they're not bitter almonds - see link below
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/glossary/a.shtml?almonds

To remove the skin of almonds, to peel them, you pour boiling water over them in a bowl and leave them for a min. or two, then you can easily rub the skins off between your fingers (or acc. to GoodWords's link you use a slightly different method): the almonds so prepared are called blanched almonds

Personally I always call these blanched almonds, and though some people may call them peeled almonds, as a product, particularly, they are known as blanched

Although technically the "repelar" is the peeling, the general name for the product seems to be "blanched almond" (I probably should have said in the question it was for a product name). Thanks also to Jane. Your links and explanations were very useful and helped me understand what the difference was.

I decided to go with sweet rather than leaving it out, as it was in a long list of other products and was helpful to distinguish between the different ones.

repelada is just peeled....

--------------------------------------------------

the reason they say Repelar..is probably because, they are Husked [pelar] and peeled [repelar]

probably....so in fact, it is 're-peel, but as we say Husk, it's just peel...

Pelar= to husk almonds: remove the husks, or to shell
repelar= to peel, the remove the thin brown skin so they you have the white nut..so to speak

Some recipes do not call for Peeling the almonds...you leave on the thin brown skin.

Please note: to blanch or parboil is to place in hot water prior to peeling....the blancing or parboiling of something happens prior to peeling

you can blanch anything with Skin: peppers, tomatoes etc.

so repelada is just the idea of peeling...and the Peeling is the Second Time of course, because they are Husked first!!

There is often confusion between blanched and peeled. Technically, this is not the same. When you buy Blanched Almonds you are buying Peeled Almonds that have been Blanched and Then Peeled!

In Spanish, you say Pelar papas..not repelar because there is only one layer of skin!

I would probably leave out regular...as in English, only other words would be added..

Almond

An oval, tan-colored nut harvested from a tree that is related to the rose family. ***Almonds are available as either a bitter or as a sweet flavored type of nut***. The bitter nut must be cooked in order to remove a naturally occurring toxin, so they are not consumed raw, but instead are processed for almond oil or almond extract. It is the sweet almond that is the nut commonly available to be served as snacks or added to salads, entrees, side dishes, baked goods, and desserts. There are a variety of almonds available in both different types and forms. As an example, Marcona almonds are a Spanish variety that are more plump than other varieties and richer in flavor. Almonds can be purchased in the shell, shelled whole, sliced, slivered, chopped, or ground. They can be blanched (skins removed), roasted or used as a raw nut.
When preparing almonds, roasting the almond at 350 degrees F for approximately 10 minutes enhances the nutty flavor for snacking or as an ingredient to other foods. Blanching also improves the flavor, which can be accomplished by placing the nut in cold water, boiling for 2 minutes, draining the water, and then removing the outer skins. For recipes requiring almonds, a quarter pound of almonds equals 1 cup of finely ground almonds.

To store almonds, store them in a refrigerator or for longer periods of time in a freezer. Always keep the nuts away from heat, sunlight and other foods with strong aromas, since they easily absorb other odors, thus changing their flavor.

Sweet almonds, see? But for a recipe, I would leave it out...

-> that is when you put them in hot water first; same for tomatos..blanche is to soften outer skin by placing in hot water, from the French blanchir; technically, blanching and peeling are not the same in cooking. They are two different steps.
