Spanish to English translations [PRO] Science - Forestry / Wood / Timber / Silviculture | | Spanish term or phrase: cortas a la esperilla y cortas por espesillos | SPAIN:
"cortas a la esperilla y cortas por espesillos" literally means something like "wait until regeneration before cutting and cut what is thick " - but I would like to find out if there is a specific name for this technique. The phrase is in italics in the original text (and IMO sounds a bit folksy):

Abstract The effects of selection felling and gap felling on arthropod communities were studied over 3 years in a spruce-beech stand in southern Bavaria, Germany. The arthropods were sampled in three strata, using pitfall traps on the forest floor as well as flight-interception traps near the forest floor and in the tree crowns. Coleoptera, Araneae, Opiliones, Heteroptera, Isopoda, Diplopoda and Neuropterida were determined to species level and assigned to ecological guilds. In general, the effects of both treatments on arthropod communities were small. An increase of eurytopic species and species of open woodland as well as of indwellers of deadwood was observed, mainly in the first year after felling. However, forest species dominated the communities in all plots, strata and years. In contrast to selection fellings, gap fellings might favour potential pest species. Nevertheless, in the studied managed spruce-dominated forest site out of the natural growth range of spruce, negative ecological effects such as the repression of forest arthropod species are not expected by small scale fellings.

Based on research, perhaps something like "regeneration and clear felling method", could work?

... old system known in Spain as <<la esperilla>> so called because the forester waits until a clump has regenerated before harvesting the parent trees. This method is often used, when, after a seeding felling, inusfficient natural regeneration has been attained or where the forester is uncertain whether to undertake the liberation and final fellings. In fact, in many stands, it is impossible to tell whether regeneration has been achieved through sequential fellings or these have been performed because the stand has already regenerated. The latter is most often the case.
See page 245
In view of the difficulties encountered in achieveing abundant natural regeneration during the regeneration period, many foresters have abandoned the shelterwood systems and resorted to the clear felling method, reserving 30 to 40 parent trees per hectare, which are taken out in the second felling after 5-6 years when regeneration is considered satisfactory.
