Not really sure what the correct translation was, and this was an instance in which I was not able to get clarification from the client. Still, I appreciate your effort to help. Thanks also to Tana. 2 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Based on references that I found, and further to traductorchile's reference, it muddies the waters even more. I removed my answer doubting that "toucans" were endangered or near extinction.
Robert may have to double-check with his client on this issue? These are the links I had initially found:
Ramphasidae
Toucans
Los Tucanes, Pico Real, Pico de Hacha (Chiapas, Tabasco), Pico de Frasco, Pico Feo, Pico Jache (Tabasco), Picudo, Tucancillo (Chiapas) http://www.innvista.com/science/zoology/ornithology/famname....
Yes, I noticed some conflicting info too - and it's not that they're very similar, is it? :) I suppose the only clue is the 'danger of extinction' issue.
There appears to be a lot of conflicting information on the term "pico real" which I found to be a "toucan".
However, more and more I am inclined to agree with Lisa's proposal of "green woodpecker" and again there appears to be a great deal of conflicting information on the Net.
Given the fact that there is mention of "being endangered" or "near extinction" which the "green woodpecker" appears to be, I am going to withdraw my answer. Regards.

Reference information: This tucan appeared as nearly extinct and it only adds to the confusion. Pico real (Aulacorhynchus prasinus)
As many texts don't include the scientific name or at least the genera it is very difficult to establish exactly what it is. Un tirón de orejas para los escritores "científicos".
