Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Science - Forestry / Wood / Timber / Fellings and cuttings
Spanish term or phrase: Sacrificio de cortabilidad
I would like to know the translation of "sacrificio de cortabilidad", which is the loss of income due to a salvage cutting, eg when you have to cut the trees before they reach the optimal age your income is less than it should be, that difference between the income cutting at the optimal rotation age and the income cutting ahead of time is called "sacrificio de cortabilidad".
Example:

Logging value (see explanation, 2nd half)

Explanation:
Sacrifice would suggest that the action was intentional (e.g. cutting for a fire-break) however the action here was an unintentional fire....so I would go with loss.

However, thinking about it, maybe the "sacrificio" does not apply to the "cortabilidad" but the "incendio"....e.g. "...the logging value in the year of the sacrificial fire...."
Changed my mind that's my first choice "logging value"

So I'm suggesting that the fire was intentional (sacrificial) and that "cotrabilidad" (profitability of logging) is simply the value of the wood at that moment (before its optimum value).
I imagine it's for an insurance claim...

Notes to answerer
Asker: I'm translating from SP into EN. The text is about appraisal of forest goods after a fire. Sacrificio refers to the loss due to the fact of cutting before the optimal age. Cortabilidad is the ammount of timber you can cut. The term in Spanish does not imply a catastrophee, you can have "sacrificio de cortabilidad" when you want to transform your forest into a "normal forest", when you cut because you need money...
