Spanish to English translations [PRO]
General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters / Greetings | | Spanish term or phrase: Unitarios de tv | Hi, I'm translating a resume that belongs to a scriptwriter. He wrote what in Spanish is called "unitarios" and I wonder what would be the English equivalent.
I mean a kind of tv series that is once a week on the air, with a different cast each time, and usually a linking thread among all of them.

There is a general distinction (not always observed) between a series and a serial. In the former, each episode (programme) tells a self-contained story; in the latter, the story continues from where it left off in the previous episode. Soap operas/telenovelas are examples of serials.
In many series, the setting and the actors are the same in each episode: ER, Friends, etc. But in an "unitario", not only is each episode a separate story but the actors and even the setting are often, if not always, different:
