since you know the name of the river, you can gather further information about the river itself by searching in Google with the name of the river and key words in Spanish or English or both.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think I can use it. It is the description of a specific type of terrace (escalonado and solapado) what I'm looking for_

stepped alluvial terraces

Explanation:
STREAM TERRACE - The relatively flat, horizontal, or gently sloping surface in a canyon or valley bottom made of alluvial materials deposited by a stream or river in times past. In some cases, successive depositional episodes have filled a valley or canyon with alluvial deposits to varying elevations, creating a series of **terrace steps**, the highest one of which the oldest and the lowest one of which is the youngest. Thus, the surface or step of a terrace is a depositional feature while the riser vertical component is erosional.

Tropical landscapes evolve at a rapid rate, creating stepped alluvial terraces, dense basin and cone topographies and multilevel cave systems.

http://www.researchonline.mq.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Rep...

They are characterised by well-developed stepped terrace systems showing up to 10 incision steps for the last 1 Ma. After 15 years of research and the synthesis of stratigraphical, sedimentological, bioclimatical data and numerical dating, these terrace systems are interpreted as the response of the fluvial environments to climatic cyclicity, superimposed on a background of slow tectonic uplift.
